Fun workshops for all abilities and every event
We have been working hard behind the scenes. Here are some of the fantastic projects we have been working on and have been funded to create.
Valentina Swirl
Inclusive Carnival Project.
This inclusive Carnival video is a collaboration - Swirl Education teamed up with Valentina's Collective to bring you Valentina Swirl. We worked with adults with learning disabilities and complex needs at Aspire in Potternewton and made carnival costumes and danced Soca together. This music video showcases our achievements.
A day of workshops in arts that have Black origins. BRAVE stands for Black Roots and Voices Expressed.
BRAVE Festival was a wonderful day of joy that took place at Kala Sangam in Central Bradford, on Saturday 7th October. This festival was a fun exploration into the creative side of Black History. Did you know that Tap Dance, Lindy Hop, Foxtrot, Majorette Baton Twirling and Breakdancing all started with Black people? Check our BRAVE page for photos and videos.
Funded by The LEAP, Kala Sangam and Bradford Council.
Making the Leeds Carnival accessible to adults with learning difficulties.
At Swirl Education, we are passionate about carnival and accessibility. We realised that many people with disabilities did not have access to the Leeds West India Carnival, so with funding from Leeds Inspired, we worked with 20 groups of people with disabilities across Leeds during 2023 to lead inclusive and sensory carnival workshops. Participants were introduced to the dance, music and costumes they would expect to experience at the carnival as well as other helpful information.
We were funded by Bradford City Council to create a dance video for international womens day 2022.
The theme was "Reclaiming the Space" and we worked with groups across Bradford to create this fantastic video about women and girls reclaiming spaces they have traditionally felt unsafe in. Funded by Bradford council.
Swirl Education's Founder Tricia Arthur-Stubbs, received Arts Council Funding.
Tricia Arthur-Stubbs was awarded been awarded Arts Council England DYCP (Developing Your Creative Practice) funding to learn how film and edit dance. Here is the piece she created to accumulate her choreography, filming and editing skills.
We were funded by Leeds Inspired to make a fantastic Inclusive Carnival Video called Unstoppable Carnival.
In 2021 the Leeds Carnival was put online due to Covid--19. WE created an online carnival troupe with people from across Leeds. Many of whom would not have been able to take part in the carnival otherwise.
